DIY-OS — Hobbyist Operating System Project
Originally at diy-os.gro.clinux.org
DIY-OS was a Chinese-language hobbyist operating-system development project. The site at diy-os.gro.clinux.org hosted documentation, code samples, and discussion materials for community members building toy kernels and learning OS internals.
What it was
DIY-OS sat in the same tradition as OSDev.org and similar hobbyist OS-development communities — a place for people who wanted to write their own kernel, bootloader, or scheduler for educational purposes. The site's content was Chinese-language and aimed at Chinese-speaking students and self-taught developers who didn't have easy access to English-language OS-development resources.
Where the community moved
The OS-development hobbyist community in China moved primarily to GitHub-organised projects, university course material repositories (notably from Tsinghua and Peking University's OS courses), and Bilibili / Zhihu tutorial content over the 2010s.
